Book Tier List
If you know me, you know that I am a fairly avid fantasy and sci-fi reader. Well, perhaps not reader, because the majority is audio books but close enough. Let me do a tier list for the books and series that I enjoy. It goes without saying but different people have different tastes, you may like some books more and dislike others more - and that is okay! This is a non-exhaustive list of all books and series I have read, but these are the ones that stand out enough for me to jot down. This is accurate as of end of 2024.
S - Even if you do not like the genre, you will probably like these books. I have read these multiple times, will 100% read again, and enjoy them every time.
- Dungeon Crawler Carl (Matt Dinniman)
- Cradle (Will Wight)
- The Land / Chaos Seeds (Aleron Kong) - debatably only includes books 1-7.
A - If you like the genre, you will love these books. I have read these multiple times.
- Path of Ascension (C Mantis) - This is a new series to me, but I blasted through it.
- The Last Horizon (Will Wight) - books 1-3 are good, lets see where the series goes.
- Bobiverse (Dennis E Taylor)
- Three Body Problem (Cixin Liu)
B - A good read that you will finish
- Dragonfall (David A Wells)
- The Gam3 (Cosimo Yap)
- He who fights with Monsters (Travis Deverell)
- Light Bringer / Black Prism (Brent Weeks)
- Arcane Ascension (Andrew Rowe)
C - Passing grade. If you are bored you might as well read them.
- Defiance of the Fall (JF Brink)
- Children of Time (Adrian Tchaikovsky) - debatably the first book is up a spot or two.
- Mistborn (Brandon Sanderson) - Some people will be upset on this one. The first book is good, but it took me 3 attempts to finish the series.
- Quantum Evolution (Derek Kunsken)
- System Apocalypse (Tao Wong)
- Teixcalaan (Arkady Martine)
- Mother Of Learning (Domagoj Kurmaic)
- Six Sacred Swords (Andrew Rowe)
D - I haven’t finished these series. I started them, but I would rather try something else or re-read another series.
- Iron Druid Chronicles (Devin Hearne)
- Noob Town (Ryan Rimmel)
- The Good Guys (Eric Ugland)
Other shoutouts - They don’t really fall into one of those buckets for one reason or another
- Quantum Earth (Dennis E Taylor) - Too soon to tell, but this could be great.
- Unorthodox Farming (Benjamin Kerel) - The first book is absolutely hilarious.
- Dantes Immortality (Antonia Terzini) - I love this book! Why did it not continue?!
- The Martian (Andy Weir) - Good book, but became way too mainstream to make my tier list.
- The Stand (Stephen King) - Great book, but a little vulgar and written in a much different era
