I finally did it! I launched paraflip. This is the “secret” project I have been working on for a little while. Go check it out.
My goal is to build alternative streaming equipment. Starting with one of the best hobbies of all time - pinball! The goal is a simple to use pinball streaming rig. Hook it up to your favorite pinball machine, hit stream, and watch your viewers tick up. No fussing with cords, and cameras, and settings galore.
I might have gotten side tracked a time or two, but we are launched! Sure, only the usb accessories are up right now, but the rest will be coming soon. I decided rather than wait for everything to be perfect, I would start finishing products and putting the finished product up on the storefront. I have everything ~90% of the way done, but boy ohh boy does that last 10% take time!
Side track 1. I wanted a simple modification of a part that already exists. Easy, right? Wrong. It cost about $7. I thought, easy. I’ll make some changes and send it to a 3d print shop. I got quoted $350 from the one, one I went back and forth on and they would drop to $25 if I ordered 100 of them. What?! This is a prototype which is going to require a few iterations. And, its like $3 in nylon. Unfortunately, I can’t just use a normal 3d printer, but now I have an industrial 3d printer in my basement if you need anything printed.
Yak shaving/shedding 2. Rachel is a patent lawyer. When she saw the trouble I went through to make the 3d printed part and how it worked, she said - why don’t you get a patent. Obviously. Unfortunately, its out of her area of expertise so we hired a friend who knows the domain. But, I am officially patent pending!
Will anyone buy this? No one knows. But, somehow. Before launching I already have a competitor. Unbelievable! Its lighting a fire under my *** so to speak, so I guess I can’t complain. This has been a fun project, and I am learning again which is great. Lets see where this project takes me over the next few months and we can go from there.
